Dr. Joan Cox Gill Award for Outstanding Service to HTRS

At each HTRS biennial Scientific Symposia, HTRS honors one of our members who has made a lasting and extraordinary contribution to the Society and its members.

Established in 2013, the award is officially titled "The Dr. Joan Cox Gill Award for Outstanding Service to the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society," in honor of the first recipient, Dr. Joan Cox Gill.  Dr. Gill received the award at the 2013 Scientific Symposium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Dr. Gill had over 30 years of experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with hemostatic and thrombotic disorders and participated in and held leadership positions in the performance of multiple national and international research studies in hemostasis and thrombosis. She was an NIH-funded investigator and authored over 100 publications in the field.  Dr. Gill mentored many pediatric hematology fellows; most of whom are in academic positions and several of whom have been successful in obtaining NIH or other peer-reviewed funding. Dr. Gill served as Treasurer and CFO of HTRS since its inception in 1989 and was responsible for HTRS attaining 501(c)(3) status.  Dr. Gill most recently was a Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine, and Epidemiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin; an Investigator and retired Medical Director of the Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders, a federally funded treatment center, at BloodCenter of Wisconsin. HTRS thanks Dr. Gill for her many years of outstanding service. She passed away on May 9, 2018, leaving a deep void in the lives of her family, friends, colleagues, and patients.
